Present
Mayor Gary Lucks, Michelle Jackson, Edwin Ramos, Shelly Roache, Javier Ortiz, and members of the Events Committee.
Call to Order
Mayor Gary Lucks called the meeting to order at 6:00 PM and welcomed everyone. He thanked the committee and volunteers for making the Town’s Fourth of July Celebration a tremendous success and encouraged continued planning for the remainder of the year’s events.
Approval of June Meeting Minutes
A motion was made, seconded, and unanimously approved to accept the June meeting minutes as presented.
Treasurer’s Report
Michelle Jackson presented the June Treasurer’s Report. The beginning balance was $4,260.90. No income was received during the month. Expenses totaled $2,018.30, leaving an ending balance of $2,239.60. Michelle reported that approximately $1,500 in matching grant reimbursements and additional deposits are expected during July. She also noted that a recent audit required itemized receipts rather than bank statements alone.
Fourth of July Celebration
Members reviewed the success of the Fourth of July celebration and agreed it should become an annual event. Highlights included the Maryland State Police Color Guard, Civil War reenactors, Harriet Tubman interpreters, children’s parade, vendors, and family activities.
September 19 Yard Sale & Movie Night
The committee approved plans for a Community Yard Sale from 7:00 AM until Noon with $10 vendor spaces, followed by Movie Night after sunset. Marketing, tent placement, food vendors, children’s activities, parking, and electrical needs were discussed.
October Events
Plans continued for a Cancer Walk on October 10 and Trunk or Treat with Movie Night on October 23.
Veterans Day
Planning is underway to secure a veteran speaker and invite the Maryland State Police Color Guard.
December Holiday Events
The committee finalized preliminary plans for the December 4 Tree Lighting, December 5 Holiday Market, Story Hour with Mrs. Claus, Christmas Caroling, holiday decorating, and the Town Christmas Decorating Contest.
Additional Business
Discussion included food vendor coordination, expanded Train Station programming, the Community Cookbook project, and updating the volunteer contact list.
