As we celebrate the 250th birthday of our great nation, I want to thank everyone who helped make East New Market’s Independence Day celebration such a tremendous success. It was truly a day that honored our country’s history, celebrated our community, and created lasting memories for families of all ages.
Our ceremony was highlighted by the Maryland State Police Color Guard’s presentation of the colors, followed by the singing of our National Anthem. Their participation helped make the ceremony especially meaningful and reminded us of the sacrifices made by those who have served our nation.
Throughout the day, visitors enjoyed the Civil War reenactment group, whose cannon demonstrations brought history to life, along with exhibits from the Harriet Tubman representatives and displays from the East New Market Fire Department. We were thrilled to see so many residents and visitors attend the ceremony and spend the day celebrating with us.
The celebration also featured many wonderful vendors, great food, and, of course, the ever-popular water slide, which proved to be a welcome attraction on one of the hottest days of the year!
A special thank you goes to Nordic Bakery for generously providing our beautiful twin birthday cakes celebrating both America’s 250th birthday and our community spirit. I would also like to thank my wife, Bonnie, for joining me in the ceremonial first cut of the cake.
History is something that must be remembered, shared, and passed on to future generations. East New Market has witnessed centuries of American history, and our town is proud to continue preserving and celebrating that legacy.
I would especially like to recognize and thank our outstanding Events Committee. Their countless hours of planning, organizing, and volunteering made this celebration possible. Their dedication continues to make East New Market a wonderful place to live and visit. They have certainly earned a well-deserved summer break and will be taking a couple of months off before returning this fall with more exciting community events to help close out the season.
Finally, thank you to Johnny’s Tavern for generously donating the American flags now being installed along Railroad Avenue and Main Street. They add a beautiful patriotic touch to our town and serve as a daily reminder of the pride we all share in our community and our country.
